Well, not a marathon in the sense that it is normally used. But for a mom with young kids, 3 movies in 4 days is my version of a marathon!*
Technically, I only saw 2 movies in 4 days, but I went to the theater 3 times in 4 days, as I saw one of the movies 1.5 times. I’ll explain.
A few weeks ago, my PT girlfriends and I finally made plans that worked for everyone’s schedule, and set a date to see “Sex and the City” on Saturday night (the 31st). We were all really excited, and made dinner plans before the movie.
While we were enjoying our table-side guacamole, some margaritas, and our combo platters at Jose’s Blue Sombrero, Beth suddenly got up to go to the bathroom, and Missy went with her. The other girls and I didn’t think much of it, even though they had both gone just before dinner, since Beth often uses the bathroom (she’s really good at hydrating), and Missy is pregnant. When they returned to the table a few minutes later, Beth had a large glass of water, and was pale and sweating. Then Missy said something along the lines of, “So, we called 911 for Beth, and the paramedics should be here soon.” Wha??? Apparently, Beth wasn’t feeling well, asked Missy to go to the bathroom with her, then proceeded to pass out! Luckily, she was sitting down when she decided to lose consciousness, so there was no bodily harm. But Missy was pretty freaked out, seeing as she wasn’t getting any response from Beth with a sternal rub (we’re such PT geeks!). Beth then said that her heart was racing, and she just didn’t feel right. The (somewhat attractive) policeman showed up, followed by the paramedics, and Beth went out to the ambulance to get checked out. Before she went out there, she was asking if she should go to the hospital. “But I really want to go to the movie!” was her reason for not going. She said she was feeling much better, her vitals checked out, so we headed to the movie, all piled into the back of my mini-van!
A little over halfway through the movie, after drinking quite a bit of water, Beth headed back out of the theater, with Missy again. We made a mental note, but decided we’d give them some time before we got too worried. When they didn’t show up a few minutes later, Diana went to check on them. A minute or so later, Diana came back in and motioned for Sarah and me to come out with her. Beth was again feeling weird, so we climbed back into the van and I drove us to the ER, at the hospital where I had just spent my day working. Two and a half hours later, around 12:40 am, Beth’s husband came from Madison, (after calling some friends in the middle of the night to come over to watch their daughter) and the rest of us headed home. (It turns out it was probably a combo of some things that caused the problem-Beth is doing just fine!) Beth had apologized profusely for making us miss the end of the movie. Obviously there were more important things to take care of! One of the nurses in the ER had seen the movie and we debated finding out what happens, and I considered checking online for some spoilers, but neither option came to fruition.
Movie number 1 (or 0.5 if we’re being technical) down.
Yesterday Andy and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary. Yea for us! We spent the morning at the zoo with our kids, which we try to do each anniversary, since we held our reception at the zoo. It was a beautiful day, perfect for being outside. That evening, we made plans to have Andy’s sister come over to watch the boys so we could go see the new Indiana Jones movie. I debated timing the movie so I could sneak into SATC right around the part where we had to leave. But another option presented itself. We enjoyed Indiana Jones, but not nearly as much as the first 3 movies. (What do we call it now, a quadrilogy?)
Movie number 2 (or 1.5 if we’re being technical) down.
I started trying to figure out how I’d catch the end of the movie. Option A: go see the movie with my mom. Option B: stay after Indiana Jones (as stated above) and catch the end by sneaking in. Option C (which became an option on Sunday): go see the movie with another set of girlfriends. Option C it is!
Which brings us to tonight. I just got home a little while ago from seeing the full shebang of SATC. It was fantastic! I discovered that we missed between 45 minutes to possibly almost an hour of the movie on Saturday. It was definitely worth it to go back to see the end.
Movie number 3 (or 2.5 if we’re being technical) down.
I’m really glad I didn’t stay after Indiana Jones last night-I don’t think Andy would have appreciated waiting almost an hour, on our anniversary, for me to watch the end of the movie. And I don’t think he would have watched with me!
The best part is I got the best of both worlds: I got to see the ultimate girlfriend movie with two sets of some of my best friends. All of the girls I went with to the movie have a lot of history on me. For 2 years straight, my PT girls and I pretty much spent almost every waking moment together, studying, going out, studying, practicing techniques, and studying. The girls I was with tonight are some of my oldest (in terms of how long we’ve been friends!), and dearest friends: I’ve known Sandy since we were 3 or 4 years old, Becky since first grade, and Amy since middle school. I could say I wish our lives were as glamorous as Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha, but that wouldn’t be the truth. We’ve got a pretty good thing going on here.
It’s been a pretty good few days!
*I even saw a movie 2.5 weeks ago, so I saw 4 movies in a very short span of time, adding to my marathon status!
