This weekend has been tiring. Actually, just last night was tiring. And not just because of Daylight Savings Time.
Andy’s sister, who turned 30 on Thursday, had her birthday party last night at Mo’s Irish Pub. We met there around 7:45 for dinner, but didn’t order until 8:30. We had two long tables reserved for us, and there were many more people arriving to celebrate while we ate. I had a tasty veggie burger (I’m not a vegetarian but have found I enjoy veggie burgers) with a glass of wine. Yes, I was at an Irish bar with delicious Irish beers on tap, but I don’t particularly care for beers that are essentially a meal in a glass. Besides, I had to save room for the cake! And what a cake it was! I had some prior knowledge as to what to expect, and I was not disappointed. First off, it was decorated as a Tiffany jewelry box. The color was spot on. And under that beautiful blue frosting was a delicious, decadent cake. The bottom layer was white cake, then a layer of strawberry (or raspberry) with buttercream, cheesecake, then another layer of strawberry/raspberry with buttercream, then chocolate cake. Yummy! I had a very large piece, and I’m looking forward to one more piece tomorrow night (which I’ve begged Lizzy for!).
Not too long after we finished eating, the live music started. No, it wasn’t specially ordered for Lizzy, but a great coincidence. The band is called Fat Bottom Special and they’re a great classic rock band. They started singing an AC/DC song and I thought the restaurant was still playing their canned music. I always enjoy some classic rock.
A lot of people turned out to celebrate Lizzy’s momentous milestone, so there were plenty of people to visit with. All of Andy’s aunts and uncles from his dad’s side came, except for one that lives in Michigan, and numerous cousins also came to have a drink or two. So hanging out in the bar, listening to the band, doing a shot (or three!), and catching up with blasts from the past helped to pass the time. Suddenly, it was 1:00 am (and Andy’s parents were still there!) and I hit my wall. Not to mention that in about an hour from then it would actually be another hour later! We finally left around 1:30, and there were still several people partying it up!
Luckily, my dear parents kept the boys overnight and agreed to take them to church this morning, so we were able to sleep until 9:15 (sort of like 8:15, though). I forced myself onto the treadmill, did some laundry, managed to pull a muscle below my right blade (which is still killing me!), and then the boys showed up around noon. At that point, my mom reminded me of a concert at church this afternoon at 4:00. She said Noah was interested in going, and I said I’d decide later if I felt up to taking him. After lunch and some playing, it was time for naps. Also for me! I love napping on the sofa on a Sunday afternoon. It’s how I spent many a Sunday in college and before kids!
Around 3:00, I got my lazy butt off the sofa and went to wake Noah up for the concert. He stayed in bed while I got myself ready, and when I went back in his room, he was asleep again! I got him up, tried to motivate myself to go, then off we went to the concert.
It was worth it! The Pike Creek Bluegrass Band played for about an hour, and they were very entertaining! Noah really enjoyed it, too. There were 5 members of the band: a guy playing banjo and singing, a guy playing the mandolin and the guitar (not simultaneously!) and singing, a woman playing the fiddle/violin, a guy playing the guitar and mandolin (also, not simultaneously!) and singing, and a guy playing the bass guitar (we’ve seen him play an upright bass, but he’s nursing a bum foot now) and singing. They were very talented, and the music was terrific. I’m really glad we went.
Now, I’m laying on the sofa, blogging, having eaten a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios, just finished with The Amazing Race, and now catching up on 30 Rock with Andy. We’ll see how long I can stay awake! Not a bad weekend!
Sorry for the lack of pictures! I had my point-and-shoot with me at Lizzy’s birthday party, but I never took it out of my purse! Andy’s mom had her camera and we took plenty of pictures with it. I’ll try to get my hands on some of those pictures!
